Spaulding Gymnastics Pink Meet
The Spaulding Gymnastics team- with the help of their opponents from Dover, Pelham, Windham, Salem, Londonderry, Bishop Guertin, Plymouth, and Concord- hosted their 4th Annual Pink Meet to raise and donate profits to the Seacoast Cancer Center at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital. Over the past four years, the total gift from the Meet has grown to $1,527, including this year's $550 gift. The donation has increased with each passing year.
The profits come largely from sales of the Pink Meet shirt. The shirts feature the schools attending the meet on the back, and Spaulding Gymnasts sold out on t-shirts this year! With the help of the staff at Wentworth-Douglass, the team was able to put together some gift baskets to raffle off during the meet, thanks to donations from UNH and area restaurants.
Spaulding Gymnastics Coach Rae Ann Chrane, Assistant Coach Emily Elliott, and student athlete Taryn Grant recently visited the Cancer Center to present their gift. "Our team captain Taryn Grant, who will be doing nursing in college, came along for the presentation [of the gift]. Many staff members from the Cancer Center came out to celebrate our donation with us... They get encouraged by seeing people give back and honor what they do," said Coach Chrane. "Most meaningful was when a patient from the Center randomly stopped to speak to us and asked us about how we started raising money. She clearly was in treatment and walked with a cane. She also thanked us so warmly."
Coach Chrane thanked all the help with the Pink Meet, including Spaulding Gymnastics parents, and the visiting teams.
Congratulations to the student athletes, parents, coaches, and fans involved in this year's Pink Meet. Opposing teams coming together to donate to a worthy cause is a great accomplishment!
